How sentences are detected
A sentence ends with a period, question mark, exclamation mark or ellipsis followed by a space or the end of the text. Common abbreviations such as Mr., Dr., e.g. and etc., and initials like J. K., do not end a sentence.
What is a good sentence length?
Readability guides generally recommend an average of 15–20 words per sentence. Sentences over 25 words are harder to follow, and sentences over 35 words are often best split in two. Mixing short and long sentences keeps your writing lively.

A line separated from the rest by a blank line and containing words counts as a sentence, even without end punctuation.
